My Project
I teach a diverse student body of English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with disabilities in a special education setting ages 12-22.
As an English as a New Language Teacher (ENL) I make sure to tailor instruction to meet individual needs, using varied approaches based on each student’s strengths and challenges.
Multisensory tools can be incredibly beneficial for students with disabilities and English language learners (ELLs). These tools can engage multiple senses, which can enhance understanding and retention. Effective tools such as visual aids can help ELLs connect words with meanings, support comprehension, and provide context for students with disabilities. Hands-on activities use a multisensory approach to learn and engage students kinesthetically and visually.
Educational tools such as whiteboards, markers, letter activity centers, tactile letters and numbers, find and write CVC words, and playdoh mats will help students engage in a multisensory approach when learning the English Language. These tools can also build language skills and support mental health while allowing students to express themselves creatively and with confidence. These tactile experiences can also help reinforce vocabulary and concepts.
By implementing these multisensory strategies, I can create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that supports the diverse needs of students with disabilities and ELLs, promoting positive mental health, learning, and confidence.
