My Students
It has been said, "Order is the shape on which beauty depends." This is the start of a new year for my fourth graders! They will come to school ready to go. I want to have everything in order for them with a well-organized library and the necessary tools to capture their wonderful ideas.
My students come from a diverse and vibrant neighborhood in an inner city neighborhood.
Our school maintains rigorous, measurable expectations within the framework of an inquiry-based International Baccalaureate curriculum. My students are smart and hard-working and they are capable of deep thinking and great creativity.
My Project
Fourth grade is a time when students are beginning to identify themselves as readers. Whether they are reading chapter books, poetry, or non-fiction books about animals or sports, they are ready to engage in conversations with small and large groups of peers in order to make sense of what they are reading and thinking. My students will benefit from having an organized classroom library, so that each of them independently can find his or her own perfect book. They also will benefit from being able to share and capture their ideas and conversations on anchor charts, to be posted around our room to serve as references and sources of deeper thinking as our year progresses.
This is crunch time!
School is about to start! A freshly organized library and essential chart paper will start each of my students off to a great year of finding and reading that perfect book, reflecting about that new idea, and squeezing everything possible out of fourth grade.
