I.D.A (Intellctual Disability Academy) Workforce Development
My students need a microwave, refrigerator, camera, camcorder, coffee, creamer, protection plans, tripod, sweeteners, memory cards, camera case, sugar packets, camera remote control, paper shredder, and other supplies to complete our new Workforce Development Center.
"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood" comes to mind when I enter my classroom. My students come in with a smile on their faces ready to work, learn and grow. We begin our day with technology, etc., computers, iPads, and tablets. I want my students to reach their full potential.
The students are a mixture of 44 boys and girls from grade 6th through 8th with disabilities ranging from Autism, deafness, vision impairments, intellectual disabilities, severe and profound.
This year our Special Education Department began a new program where the special needs students change classes for the first time and for the upcoming year we will be adding job skills to our curriculum. The job skills will consist of mail delivery, coffee shop, technology class, copying/collating, photography, and recycling. Our school is a Title 1 school and does not have enough funding to supply our students with the supplies we need to make this program successful.
My Project
My students need a digital camera, camcorder, and shredder for our new program preparing our special needs students for the world. The materials that I am requesting will help our students to obtain the job skills necessary to prepare them for the world. We already have coffee makers, therefore, we need coffee, creamer, sweeteners, and sugar packets for the coffee shop.
We have students who have an interest in photography. If the project is funded, we will be able to use the camera, remote control, tripods, and memory cards to train our students how to take pictures and print them on the printer. All of the items requested will be used to assist our student in being better prepared for the world. The students will learn how to sort and deliver mail, make coffee, operate a cash register, etc.
The materials that I am requesting will help our students to obtain the job skills necessary to prepare them for the world.
This project will enhance what we have already started.
The children are learning how to file, collate, copy, laminate, make coffee, count money, and their interactions with the teachers and their regular education peers have been good for students. We need more materials so that all the students will have the opportunity to advance. We have a team of teachers and teacher's assistants who love our students and want them to be prepared for the world.
