My students need an iPad with a protective case as a vehicle to produce and edit music. Using an iPad to introduce music editing will allow students to become familiar with the app GarageBand.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom is anything but typical. This year, we have taken a strengths-based approach to learning, and my students have discovered different talents within themselves. As a group, we are beginning to appreciate others for their strengths, and find new ways to showcase our own.
My scholars are 32 energetic sixth grade GATE students.
They are a group that has been together since second grade, and are about to embark on a new journey into middle school. They are a passionate, kind, and resilient bunch that perseveres even through difficult situations. They are eager to learn about the arts, and have recently been exposed to different artistic elements. This year, they have strengthened their abilities, and are learning to integrate new components of media into artistic projects. My school has started and arts program that teaches students dance, signing, art, computer programing, and various musical instruments both throughout the day and after school. While the students are excited to learn more about music, they are held back due to the fact that they don't have the necessary tools or instruments to take their progress to the next level.
My Project
This technology will assist my students to experience first-hand accounts of how music is made, and how to use sheet music to incorporate a variety of instruments in one song. IPads will be used to study, produce, and publish musical compositions. Additionally, students will examine different sheet music that is specific to a variety of genres. I am proposing to use iPad technology to teach my students to record and publish music to air throughout our campus and to perform at school assemblies. The sixth grade scholars in my classroom will work cohesively to educate their peers about musical history and composition while performing their artistic skills on instruments through GarageBand. With this project, musical creation will be experienced, and this will give students a first-hand experience to participate in this artistic practice before embarking on to middle school.
Using the app GarageBand, we will use virtual instruments to compose and record music.
Lessons on how to read sheet music, and creating sounds with repeated beats and rhythm will be incorporated through these devices. This can be used by students to analyze how different genres of music have similarities and differences. This will improve my classroom by helping to develop students who are more well-rounded scholars and who have an appreciation for the arts.
