Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine learning come alive right before your eyes with an iPad? Many of my students have learning issues and need extra support. By having an iPad, my students will be able to interact and create their own learning from gaining valuable fine motor skills to learning how to read!

95% of my students come from low-income households.

Learning through play is one of the best ways to reach them and escape the achievement gap! My classroom is mostly comprised of English Learners (El's) and English as a Second Language (ESL) students. This is our first year to hold a Bilingual program at our school which means my entire class is Hispanic this year. All of my families speak Spanish at home and chose to put their child into a Bilingual program. There are 24 students in my classroom this year. The families are as involved as they can be, but most parents work long hours and can't spend time at home reading and practicing letters and numbers with their children. My kinders are full of energy and are extremely capable learners, but require a little extra motivation and different ways of reaching them through more interactive learning tools.

My Project

With an iPad and protective case in our classroom, there are so many great apps we can use to learn and review our letters, letter sounds, reading skills, and math skills during circle time, centers and whole group learning time. By getting to work with such an interactive tool and through play my students who love playing video games at home and who are more kinesthetic learners will be much more engaged, which will help them to succeed!

This is very important for my students because they will be learning the basic skills necessary to be able to read and write fluently to become successful readers and authors.

They will also be learning basic math skills that will provide them with the base they need to be successful for the rest of their learning career! By being literate and breaking through the achievement gap these students will have the chance to be the first ones in their families to go to college!
