This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you love school and working with others but then dreaded the time to try on your own? That is exactly the way my students are. They love to learn but don't like independent practice. This tool could be the one thing that gets them excited and motivated for independent practice.

My students range in age from Kindergarten to Eighth grade.

They are really sweet kids that struggle with learning. They live in low-income areas of NYC and attend a Title 1 school. They love working in a small group but when it is time to 'try' on their own, they shut down; they are afraid to try. There are not many times in their daily life that they feel successful. Its so important for them to have many successful moments throughout their school day. The more success they feel the more they will be ready to take a chance for success again.

My Project

My students need two iPad minis, protective screens and cases to enhance their independent practice of math and reading. My students will be able to use the iPad minis when it is time to practice various skill independently. I teach small groups of students and need to differentiate the group lesson and many times the students are working on different skill levels. If they are able to practice math or reading skills independently at their own level on an iPad mini, their motivation, moral and abilities will surely increase.

This project is very important to me not only because it will help the students increase their independent academic abilities but it will increase their self-confidence as well.

Knowing they are able to work independently on an iPad mini will hopefully help them realize that they have the ability to work independently in other ways.
