My Students

The transition from elementary to middle school, sixth grade students may be intimidated by a bigger campus, more students, multiple teachers and classes, in an unfamiliar school. As a sixth grade teacher, I create an environment that is warm and welcoming for all my students. My goal is to make this time a stress free time for the incoming, sixth graders.

My students are a mixture of many different backgrounds on all different academic levels.

My goal for the students is to challenge them academically in math and sciences without ever compromising their character. My vision is to develop lifelong learners who continues to challenge themselves to change the world.

My Project

The primary way that I am connecting with my students is through a computer screen. I am currently using a laptop on a daily basis to communicate and share lessons with my students. The struggle that I have is that I cannot see my students with just one screen.

The monitor that I am requesting is something that will help me to read my students' facial expression which gives me cues on how they understand the lesson.

As we are all in our Zoom meetings, I am constantly projecting my lesson on the screen for the students. Because I have my lesson on my screen, I can't properly see my students because my screen is being occupied by my lesson. The addition of a monitor will allow me to have all the students show on one screen, while I have my lesson projected on the main screen.

This is a huge benefit for my students because I will be able to read their facial expressions and take cues from their actions on how they are understanding the lesson. Often times, the students will not speak up and it is my job as the teacher to recognize this during my lessons. If I am able to see that a student is struggling, I can directly ask him/her if they need me to slow down or if they need additional support.
