With the school year around the corner, I am prepping as much as I can. Teaching in a Title I school, my students come from diverse backgrounds. I want to provide as much as I can for my students in need! As of right now, I have two classes of 5th grade students for both ELA and Social Studies. It's my first year in 5th grade and I'm very excited to meet all my students! Even more excited to expand their minds with reading and social studies!
My Project
We are conducting a novel study with the book Wonder. It will take about a month and a half to complete the novel study. Wonder is a book that takes readers on a journey with August, a 5th grade boy who had never been to elementary school due to a facial deformity. August goes through many challenges as he mainstreams into school. The class will read through his trials and triumphs in his first year at school. This is a great book to use to introduce the school year, to teach students that it is okay to be different and unique.
