Do you remember what is was like to read a book you just couldn't put down? What if the book was terrific, and you had made it yourself? Can you imagine a parents face when their child presented them with a book they had made with their own hands? They could be the author as well as the illustrator.
My students are in a Title One school, and are finally able to get a chance to learn about art.
I am the art teacher teaching them the blueprints of art, and want to collaborate with the classroom teacher on making a book. They have to write four reports in their classes, and I want to take their reports and have them publish it in my room as a book.
My Project
I'm requesting the materials needed to make books with my students while they're in art class. I want to use the reports that they write with their classroom teachers, and have them display it in a book they've made. I want them to make a beautiful cover and do their own illustrations. Then we can invite the parents for an authors day and display our books. I feel connecting Language Arts to my Art program will benefit both programs.
