Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are incredibly intelligent, caring, fun. My students want you to know that they love to read as much as they love to play board games. Most have grown up together and have known each other since kindergarten. They are united! Our school is located in the innercity of Illinois.
What makes my students very special is that they are all bilingual and bi-literate.
We are a dual language school where kids work in Spanish for half of the day and English for the rest of the day.
My Project
We need books! This grant is unique because I am writing it with my biliterate middle schoolers! Students actually chose the books in our cart that they would love to read during silent reading. They say these books will give them more opportunities to read by enlarging our small classroom library. My students would love to have several series of books along with some really interesting individual titles from a variety of genres.
Now for the games.
My students said that they need time to destress and have chosen many games they would love to play during free time. We have only a few board games in our classroom and would love to have enough games so that everyone could play.
My students and I would be so grateful for this opportunity to obtain books and games for our classroom. Being able to read books that they choose will help them develop a love of reading as well as boost their test scores. The games will provide a wonderful balance, giving students time to socialize in a fun and healthy manner.
