This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever missed a step in learning a new skill? The ability to distinguish letter sounds are the stepping stones to becoming a good reader. My first graders can not read any word without sounding out the letters.
My little first graders are such eager little minds.
They are inner city kids, that come to school for much more than their education. My kiddies come to school, leaving their hard homes, to eat, to be loved, to be accepted and to learn. They truly love being a part of our school. Many kids do not know what to do when summer approaches.
Because of this, I strive to give my students as many opportunities as I can. Due to our lack of budget, and classroom supplies, my students do not have many materials to help them learn and master the skills they need to become great readers.
My Project
My classroom consist of 90% English Language Learners, which makes it harder for my little ones to learn letter sounds. Because of this I want to provide them more hands on and engaging learning opportunities. With your help, my students will be able to put their skills into action. Learning a second language at their age is so difficult, and frustrating. I want my students to be engaged and have fun learning at the same time. The learning centers will provide my students this opportunity. They will be able to put their skills into action on a daily basis. The letter kit, comes with all of our phonic sounds. These kits(centers) will allow my students to sound out and spell each word as they learn it. What a great way to be engaged in phonics! Being able to build words with their own hand is such an important way for them to practice their skill.
With your help, my students will be able to master the sounds of letters in order to build and read words.
The outcome will be a classroom of English Language Learners that can sound, spell and read words! What an amazing gift to give to my little firsties!
