Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Is that a new book? My kindergarten special education students are so excited about reading, and I am having a difficult time finding multiple copies of books that contain the vocabulary they are learning that can be used in my reading groups.

The kindergarten students I work with have a range of abilities, as well as, a range of disabilities; they include developmental delays, legally blind and deaf/hard of hearing.

In fact our school is a public school that specializes in working with students who are visually impaired and deaf/hard of hearing. While they are excited to read a new book, they are over the moon when we get to read the books that are in color and they each can have a copy of it.

My Project

Reading is such an important part of my student's daily life. Research shows that the more children read, the better they will become at reading. However, I currently do not have a variety of leveled books for my students to practice reading with. My kindergarten special education students are so excited about reading, and I am having a difficult time finding multiple copies of books that contain the vocabulary they are learning that can be used in my reading groups. They look forward to reading new books but I am quickly going through the books at their level in our limited leveled library. I am hoping to have my project funded in order to give my students the opportunity to become the fluent readers I know they can be. It would be one less struggle for these students that have developmental delays. If WE can keep them excited about reading it will build their confidence and self-esteem so they will be more inclined to work hard on other academic tasks.

Donations to this project will give my students access to books that will enable them to become independent, fluent readers.

They are so proud when they read a book by themselves. By funding this project you will be an instrumental part in building their self-esteem and confidence. Reading is the one skill that transcends one subject area; reading is a part of every subject area. I hope you will be my partner in providing my students the opportunity to Read With Speed!
