My students need a library to develop reading comprehensive skills. There are currently no books which will allow my students to learn and develop academically.
"I change myself, I change the world," Gloria Unsold said. A book can make this a reality. Having books will pique my students' interests, stimulate their curiosity, and increase their desire to learn.
I have a rainbow of students who like to read or look at picture books.
Many of my students have learning disabilities as well as other disabilities. Our school is a shutdown unit who has some interaction with the outside community.
My students conduct community service projects every year, which they enjoy doing. They are very artistic and creative. They enjoy completing their academic lessons with a hands-on project. They hunger for knowledge and seek ways to accomplish their goals to become better students who will be well rounded, empathic and self-sufficient.
They can be sponges at times when they are given the right tools. I know how much they want to learn when they ask me questions students their age should already know. My students need me at times to help them when they have no one else. They are "my kids" and they are light bulbs waiting to be turned up, so they could shine brighter.
My Project
I have requested various books that will help me create a classroom library to develop reading comprehensive skills for my students. Your donation will give my students accessibility, and peace of mind; a library that can give them the comfort of knowing that required materials are readily available. Not to mention a curious state of mind, and the desire to want to know what exactly is in a particular book.
Any donation will give my students knowledge that can never be taken away from them. Many of my students are unable to go to the public library. A classroom library will allow my students to use these books in school or borrow books to take home. As their teacher, it is my job to bring the necessary materials to them. I cannot do this alone! Thank you.
This a project of a lifetime.
There will never be a time when my students will not need a book. Because my students are mostly visual learners, even the students who are learning disabled will be able to look at picture books and feel as though they are a part of the class lesson.
The students who love to read can accomplish the goal of becoming better readers. How great would it be to know you had something to do with this. Knowing a student is reading because of you is priceless!
