My students need three sets of Magnatiles in order to help them learn spatial relationships, math, logic, and problem-solving through creative building!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My special needs students face many challenges on a daily basis. Having the tools available to learn shapes, spacial relationships and how to problem solve will allow them to meet their goals in a fun creative way!
I teach twelve wonderful, energetic five to seven year old students in a school located in Lower Manhattan.
My students face various developmental delays and the use of hand held math toys allows them to learn by using the modality of touch and movement. They have so much to share and the right manipulatives will give them the outlet they need to learn things visually and hopefully share their new found information.
My Project
I have requested Magna Tiles to make learning math fun! They can be used for many different purposes such as patterns, spatial problem solving, and logical thinking. These Magna Tiles will help to make the lives of my students better. Magna Tiles can be used for so many different activities. I can teach students about patterns, understanding the difference between two and three dimensional shapes, measuring distance and weight, as well as being able to identify shapes within other shapes.
The three Magnatile sets will help my special needs students learn spacial relationships and problem solving.
They will also be able to see a 3-d shape made with their own hands. These tools will allow the teaching of more vocabulary words in order to improve their language development.
