My Students

Imagine a tool for our classroom that allows students to interact with our learning in a bold new way. Imagine a tool for our classroom that will keep us engaged and excited about learning. We need new technology to super charge our quest for knowledge!

My students attend the poorest elementary school in our large district.

100% of my students receive free lunch and a vast majority of my students live below the poverty line. 85% of my students have no father figure or male role model and come from broken, single family homes. 95% of my students reside in the cities largest and most dangerous public housing project. They face unimaginable hardships and obstacles every day. They face criticisms and are met with expectations of failure everyday. Then they arrive at our classroom door and enter a world of love, nurturing, hard work, success and the expectation that we will all achieve and succeed. Despite so much working against them, my students are happy, loving, kind and hard working itty bitty scholars. They have an unmatched desire to learn (especially reading and writing) and push themselves to be the best. My students know that my expectations for them are out of this world and they meet those expectations every day.

My Project

We need new technology that can engage us, inspire us, excite us and motivate us to keep pushing ahead on our quest for knowledge. An iPad 2 will provide help meet these needs. This tool will provide hands-on, interactive ways to read, write, count, add and subtract, create and analyze. We will use this tool to improve our handwriting, to learn our sight words, to read books, to listen to books, to count and add and subtract and to satisfy our thirst for knowledge. We will also use this tool to explore the world outside of the projects we live in and expose ourselves to new places, things and ideas. I plan to allow each student at least 30 minuets a week on the iPad with apps, games and lessons that target their specific needs whether that's learning letters or reading books. Additional time on the iPad will be used as an incentive for hard work and for our friends who need some additional help. And we will have some serious fun with our new iPad2. And learning should be fun!

An iPad 2 will provide one more tool to excite my students about learning and give them access to even more ways to learn and grow.

This tool will provide us with one more way to meet the individual needs of each unique student so that they can reach their fullest potential.
