My Students

My fourth graders are such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read and write on much lower levels, while some of their classmates are learning to excel at their grade level and beyond. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and use hands on interaction whenever possible.

In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.

We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion of special education students into a main stream classroom. I teach in a pod of three fourth grade classrooms and one self containment room. Some of my students come from a rough background and upbringing. My classroom is an escape from that and an opportunity to make a better future for themselves. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, understanding our peers, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. This is a must with students who are intellectually on levels that range from first to fourth grade. We must celebrate little wins together each day.

My Project

Classroom fidgeting and concentration is a big issue for any teacher. Research has proven that flexible seating can greatly increase concentration in students. These fidget chair bands will be applied to every desk to help aid in that matter. These bands help students focus and stay in their seats. They are a great alternative seating option for students with sensory needs. The yoga ball will be used for stability and concentration in students as well. It also provides another flexible seating option for students to work. I have also requested an electric pencil sharpener for our classroom. We go through MANY pencil sharpeners throughout the year. Please help me fund these items for my students!
