Our focus every year at BPE is to get more books in the hands of kids! We've had various projects to inspire readers from preK-5th grade, including a school-wide reading competition and a "lending library" in our entryway. Whenever new books are displayed in our library, in the classroom, or even in the entryway, students swarm the area, excited to find the perfect book. They'll trade books in the hallways, classrooms, and outside on the playground, carting them around in backpacks, lunch boxes, or carrying them in their hands.
Students at BPE LOVE getting new books and, even more, love talking about their newest read!
As a school-based specialist, I'll have kids in every classroom seek me out to tell me what they're reading. I love hearing them learn more about the world around them. We want to get new and relevant biographies in the hands of our kiddos!
My Project
While students are at school learning more about the world, they need texts that fill in the gaps of old history books, where people who look like them achieve great things in life.
It's empowering to see your story reflected in someone's biography.
That's what these books will do for our students. The Little People, Big Dreams publishers go to great lengths to tell the stories of people who have influenced history in ways that students can understand and relate to. These specific diverse text reflect the students at our school while also giving them a jumping-off point to learn more about the world around them.
