My Students
"Books are a uniquely portable magic." My students have a love of reading. They are able to make connections and learn lessons from characters. They learn about dreams and struggles of people who are different from them, but they also want to see characters who are like them, as well.
My students are diverse, therefore my books should be diverse as well. I want my students to have options in the classroom and be able to choose books they can see themselves in.
My Project
Children need to find books that they have that connection to, that they feel reflects them and their life experiences. Also, the need to develop empathy for others is felt in every classroom. Books can be a key in facilitating these discussions and understandings. "Today a reader, tomorrow a leader."
I have a variety of students in my classroom and each one needs to feel represented. A diverse classroom library can go a long way in meeting that need. I know my students will benefit from a diverse selection of children's literature. I look forward to sharing these new books with my class!
