This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have a special place in my heart and play a big role in my life. They are the reason I still teach and why I will continue to teach this population. My students are amazing young adults who struggle with managing their emotions due to troubled pasts, their home environments, and other factors. Despite all of their challenges, both behaviorally and academically, they shine with the right type of support and expectations. All my students want to do well, but they believe they cannot because they have been told that their whole lives.

What I love most about my students is their tenacity.

Every day they get up and come to school knowing that today may not be an easy day. Many things are difficult for my students (social interactions, decision making, grade-level academics, handling conflict, etc.). However, they want to do better and strive to be the people we believe them to be.

My Project

My students face many challenges. Sadly, one of the challenges is having basic things such as socks, underwear, and clothing that we take for granted. Even with these challenges, they will make it to school, sheepishly look me in the eye, and ask if I can get them these items.

In a classroom full of teenage boys, we are in dire need of these items.

The materials will go to those who need it the most. Others will be stored in our locker, so when a student shows to school in the winter with no socks, we can provide it to them.
