My students are young adults in their late teens. My classroom is filled with 6 amazing young adults with autism. My students are highly sensory motivated and driven. They are impulsive, tactile learners who need to be in a sensory-filled room with the information presented visually, in a clear and concise manner. They are working on skills to help them succeed in life outside of the classroom. They go to "job-sites" and go on community walks and participate as valued members of their community. They face challenges on a daily basis, such as overstimulation from the loud, visually over-stimulating world we live in, but through hard work and tactile learning, it will allow them to overcome these challenges.
My Project
An iPad would provide my students with learning applications that will allow them to each work at their own pace.
This iPad will provide visual, auditory and tactile learning opportunities for my students, as well as provide them with another method of communication with parents, caretakers, peer, and teachers without frustration.
Each student is on a different level requiring differentiation across the classroom. This device is mobile, allowing it to follow my students throughout different school environments. By having an iPad, the students will be able to independently work on their goals. It will also keep each student engaged and present in the classroom in order to minimize elopement and promote SOCIAL DISTANCING!
