My Students
“When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.” As we are preparing to head into a 4th year of education budget cuts, I must be the one who MAKES it happen for the students in my classroom.
Most of my students are from low income families.
We live in a small town with less than 9,000 people. There are around 900 children attending our elementary school. It is the only elementary school in our town. We serve a variety of students from multi-ethnic backgrounds. My classroom is also an inclusion classroom. I currently have 3 inclusion students.
My Project
Our school has not received supply money in over 3 years. I was thrilled when a local grant purchased a laptop and LCD projector for my classroom. I was not able to get funding for two items that will allow us better access to our new technology.
My projector is mounted to my ceiling and projects onto my chalkboard. We are unable to see the content on the gray wall. The only way we can see it is by hanging white poster board on the wall. The poster board isn't quite large enough to cover the area of the projector. We have to use the board for other things, so I have to put up the poster board every time I wish to use the projector and take it down when we finish. This is time consuming and distracting to the students. This time could be utilized more efficiently if I had a pull down screen to use with my projector.
My laptop sits on the side of a shelf. A mobile cart would allow me to position the laptop in a better location for classroom instruction and student participation.
This donation will allow me to better serve the needs of my students who are already lacking the technology resources that they need so desperately.
I use the projector daily to assist with phonics, visual arts, mathematics, and science instruction. These two items will be permanent fixtures in my classroom and will benefit students for years to come.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Will you help me make this dream a reality?
