Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in an urban high school where the majority of students live below the poverty line.
I have served in this district as a special education teacher for 20 years and happily continue to do so.
Teaching is my passion, my calling and I could not imagine doing anything else in this world.
My present classroom contains 10 significant intellectually disabled students, ages 16-19, of varying functioning levels. Two of my students use wheelchairs, five of my students are ELL’s ( English Language Learners) and one student is nonverbal.
Due to the handicapping conditions of my students preparing them to enter the adult world as independent as they can be is a high priority.
My Project
These materials such as tooth paste, tooth brushes, mouth wash and dental floss will foster proper, healthy oral hygiene. Soap, disposable towels and deodorant will assist students in maintaining a clean, odor-free body. The brushes and combs will be used to encourage a clean and neat appearance in regards to hair styling and the storage containers will assist in keeping these items organized by student.
Many of my students are experiencing trial work experiences in which they go to various businesses and volunteer their time to learn specific job duties in an area of interest.
Students need to be clean and neat in school and at work but struggle in this area. With these hygiene boxes, I would like to establish proper, healthy hygiene routines.
