My Students
"Mrs. F, did you know (this animal) does (amazing fact)?" This is what I heard all year long from numerous students as they were reading independently. My class absolutely fell in love with reading nonfiction text. They could not get enough information, and we could not visit the library enough.
That is what hunger for learning looks like, and I am blessed enough to see it in the faces of my students daily.
What a joy, as a teacher, to see your students not only accomplishing what you set out the year to accomplish - reading - but then to see them genuinely loving it!
My Project
These Scholastic Magazines will be used across the curriculum. The topics introduced will help us meet our science and social studies standards, while at the same time improving our reading fluency and comprehension skills. Each magazine comes with additional activities that also touch on our math concepts.
In addition to being versatile and valuable academically, my students enjoy their magazines so much they don't realize they are actually learning!
They are completely consumed by the topic we are reading about. That is what learning looks like. I would love to see the same enjoyment and engagement for my next group of first graders. I know they will love these magazines just as much as my first group!
