This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students do not have computers, much less Internet at home.
"Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere." - Chinese Proverb
My learners are five or six years young and come from different nationalities.
I have 21 students in the AM group and 20 students in the PM group. We currently have ongoing, school-wide contests that consist of lessons passed in i-Ready and Accelerated Reader programs, combined with perfect attendance for additional points.
Two of my kindergarten students were the top winners school-wide. The contest included students from grades kindergarten to fifth grade during the first nine-week grading period. Some other students from my class won in different levels. Quite a few do not have computers at home, so the extra computer that will be accessible in the classroom will allow more learners to rotate through each day.
My Project
We currently have three computers in the classroom. One of the three is mostly used by the teacher to deliver instruction using the Promethean board.
The other two computers are used by the students using a rotation system. There is not enough time for each learner to complete three or more passed lessons during the week.
An additional computer will allow more students to achieve overall in the passed lessons consisting of phonological awareness, phonics, high-frequency words, and comprehension.
With the donors' generosity, I will be able to give my students more visits to the computer center in order to show academic progress in each domain mentioned above. An additional computer will allow the learners enough time during the week to achieve i-Ready reading goals.
