My Students

Our school is located in the inner city on the Southwestern side of Richmond. Serving students in grades 6 – 8, the student/teacher ratio is roughly 15 to 1. There are over 700 students at the school, with a large portion of students who come from bilingual households. Each year, a small portion of students start the school year unable to speak or understand the English language.

MY students are mostly from low to moderately low-income homes, making 98% of them eligible for free lunch.

Our students are also compassionate, caring, and respectful learners. They love music and love having opportunities to play and perform for their families and community. Our students come to school and class ready to give their all to their learning in spite of the challenges in which they may face, i.e., lack of proper equipment. We want our students to experience goodness in education. We want them to know they are worth the investments of today in hopes of a brighter future tomorrow.

My Project

My students are learning new musical skills by learning to read and play the piano. To ensure success, students will need piano method books. These books will help to teach students to expand their knowledge of the piano, musical alphabet, rhythm and pitch.

Learning to play the piano takes dedicated work.

Students work up a thirst and need water during class time. Water fountains are not used in the building at this time due to COVID restrictions. Students need water as a refreshment, it will help strengthen their bodies as they learn.
