My students need LEGOs to do hands-on activities and be creative, stress release balls, assorted farm animals, and the assorted pens to make science projects.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a social worker who works with students diagnosed with ADHD and learning disability. Most of them are children who come from broken homes.
"Constantly missing school day, can bring their academics down as well as increasing their chances of dropping out of school." In order to prevent this and enhance our students' chances to become good citizens and finish school, we would like to make sure that our students come to school on a daily basis and on time.
We have a goal to maintain 95% attendance rate in our school and have thought about giving incentives to them when they achieve this 95%. We would like to include their parents too and reward them with incentives as well. Unfortunately, our school does not have the money to achieve this goal. That's why I am asking for your donation.
My Project
My project is to have my students in school every day. We have set up a goal of having 95% attendance. My experience had showed me that when you reward students, they are more likely to comply with school demands more positively. Therefore, I would like to have my classroom set up with toys like various LEGO sets, fidgets, stress balls, pens, and other sensory items that they can use creatively and have the necessary tools to bring down their stress and maintain focus.
Students need to develop the love and willingness to be in school.
By being able to gift them with items to make their work easier and more special they will continue to work hard and be in school everyday. A little appreciation goes a long way to students and my students give so much. Employees receive year-end performance bonuses, raises, sometimes even vacations; shouldn't kids benefit in the same way? They're not equivalent situations, most experts agree. School-aged children should get pleasure from just learning and discovering. They should learn to feel that academic success is the result of hard work and that there's a reward in the work.
The way I intend to use this is as follows: I will have a monthly class chart with their names. Every time they are in school, they will receive a check mark, at the end of the month, we will have a ceremony to give out the incentives to those with a 95% attendance.
With this, they will be motivated and at the same time will be learning. It has been my experience that student learn best, when they find the task to be rewarding and fun to do and at the same time challenging.
