My Project
Working at our Title I dual-language school has opened my eyes to a big challenge - watching students freeze up when math feels too abstract or intimidating. I found these incredible math game books that could really change things, especially the "Well Played" series - they're packed with activities that would work great in both English and Spanish.
"These hands-on activities are exactly what our students need to finally see themselves as real mathematicians."
I got really excited when I saw Denise Gaskins' hundred chart book because it's full of hands-on activities our students could actually get into. And Libo Valencia's "Math Play" seems like it would make math feel more like fun than work. I want to learn from Fuchang Liu's book too, since it talks about common teaching mistakes - that kind of practical advice is so valuable.
These books would help me make math more engaging for everyone, especially as we bridge the language gap while keeping learning meaningful. I want our students to walk into math time feeling excited instead of anxious, no matter which language they're more comfortable in. When kids get to play with math concepts and actually enjoy it, it's amazing how much more they learn.
