My Students
"Mrs. L,, I need a sheet of paper! I'm sorry, we're out. Can someone please let him borrow a sheet of paper?"
My students are an incredibly eager, loving, and diverse group of children.
They come from a high poverty area in Louisiana. There are not a lot of resources at our school. Our students are loved; however, they do not always have the needed materials to enhance their learning.
My Project
My students are writers! We love to write. They want to write. We just never have the materials we need in order to do simple things, like write. How can I help them become amazing authors without the simple necessities such as pencils and paper. Did you have a pencil when you were in school? We don't always have that luxury! There have been days when my students have had to share a pencil. I am constantly cutting paper in half in order to save paper. This can be extremely stressful, especially with first graders.
How can a student learn without the basic essentials?
Help make their learning possible. My students actually get excited when I buy a pack of paper, or a pack of pencils. They get excited that they do not have to write on scratch paper. Help keep the excitement alive! Give a child a pencil, and a sheet of paper to let their imaginations soar.
