Technology sure is something! We just received Chromebooks from Donors Choose and they are AMAZING! In fact, they are so amazing my students requested more! I'm hoping to give my students more time using technology for educational purposes.
My students are computer savvy, but rarely get enough time to develop their skills.
We do have access to a mobile cart of laptops at school, but it's hard to tell which will work and which won't on any given day-- thus being less than reliable. Not many of my students have a computer at home. Some children have Internet access through a parent's phone, but you and I both know it can be very frustrating to try and use a phone like a computer. My students are very interested in technology and are incredibly engaged when we incorporate computers into our lessons. They are blown away with our new Chromebooks and are eager to learn more about Chrome.
My Project
Six more Chromebooks will ensure that my students have more time using technology for educational purposes while developing skills that will help them succeed in our fast-paced, technologically driven society. Not all students feel successful when they do Math, Reading, Writing, Science, or Social Studies, but most of my students are very comfortable using computers. My students who struggle the most academically amaze me with their computer skills. Using technology like Chromebooks in the classroom gives all students a chance to shine. I also see a positive shift in attitudes when we use the computers for Social Studies or another subject. They are more engaged and less reluctant to try.
My students love the Chromebooks we have and how easy they are to use.
Additionally, the projects we work on through Chrome can be accessed at home to be shown off to a parent or sibling. In the two days we have had our Chromebooks students created a Google Presentation, shared it with me, and used Khan Academy for Math. The best part-- Google automatically saves work, so we have no worries about where, when, or how to save-- which has already saved one student's slide show!
