My Students

I teach in a small town on the Canadian border. My class is part of a K-12 school within a tight-knit community. My students are hard workers and persist in completing school work to the best of their ability.

The students at our school have a lot of opportunities to read and succeed in reading.

We have a wonderful library that is constantly being updated with new and exciting texts, and our 6-12th grade students are able to use Accelerated Reader to test their knowledge on the books they read. Many teachers, like myself, use Epic! to provide even more audiobooks and stories to students online. My students, along with most others in the school, are passionate and motivated to read, and they love to explore new stories during read-to-self time.

My Project

I Love to Read week is planned for February 7th- 11th at our school. During this fun week, the students compete in reading competitions, participate in book-themed dress-up days, and share their love of reading with reading buddies in other grades. This year, our big culminating event will be a Writer's Showcase at the end of the week. And, for the first time, we hope to include the high school students in on the fun! For this reason, we need A LOT of cool prizes to help motivate everyone to play along.

After interviewing the 6th graders, it seems that stickers, food, pencils, and squishy animals would be the best prizes.

This is why I am requesting these items. We can't wait to share this week with the students and the rest of the community! Thank you for considering donating to this project!
