I Love Reading!

My Project

I am a first year kindergarten teacher who enjoys working with this age group. I love reading to my students and find that using a book before a lesson helps me to to start meaningful discussions with my students. They are able to make that text to self connection, focus on strategies that will help them with story elements, comprehension, and retelling. I am able to observe their insightful discussions through small and whole group discussions. Due to covid, students are behind in their phonics, phonemic awareness, and reading standards. They have a difficult time with letter recognition and their sounds, which makes it difficult for them to read and decode words. Before entering kindergarten, a lot of my students did not have preschool experience due to the impact of covid. Having these materials or collection of books will help to support my students with a better understanding of the lessons and provide more books for our classroom library with different genres for my students to enjoy.
