My Project
Teaching and learning has changed dramatically in the last three years, as we’ve adjusted to a new landscape of learning; distance not only from each other but from traditional ways of instruction. Young children have lost much of their ability to cooperate and learn in a diverse situation, and teachers need to adjust their delivery of instruction to meet the various needs of learners. By creating a learning space that gives children choice, we are encouraging buy-in and empowering our students to take responsibility for their own learning.
My students include a dynamic and energetic group of second graders that experienced Kindergarten through distance learning and first grade spaced six feet apart from each other.
Children do not do their best learning in isolation, without cooperative groups and partnerships. With flexible seating opportunities, students can work in locations around the room that support their learning styles, need for movement, and collaborative efforts. These seating options will provide differentiated opportunities for each student in my class. The ability to choose will increase their learning buy-in, creating a more focused and dynamic environment in which to grow. I can’t wait to introduce my students to our flexible seating classroom!
