My students need math manipulatives, including a singing multiplication tables CD, multiplication bingo, a math quiz game show with extra quiz cards and self-teaching math machines.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As I look around my classroom, I see teachers, athletes, servicemen and women. I see our future right before my eyes, and they don't even know it. My 6th graders are from an extremely low income community with more obstacles in their everyday lives than any adult should ever have to suffer through. Starvation, death, abuse, neglect are a normal way of life for my kids.
My kids adore math, but the problem is how quickly they do it. It takes us FOREVER to do a simple problem. Somewhere along the way, these kids have missed out on the most valuable building blocks that are needed to succeed for the rest of their lives.
These math manipulatives would be a Godsend to these kids. They WANT to succeed, but they need your help. The games are "cool" looking and interesting that a 6th grader wouldn't be embarrassed to play. The CD is a learning experience, but "fun" at the same time. These kids love to sing and dance, so it's a perfect fit.
Your help will change the lives of my students in a way that I simply cannot do alone. These are the same people who may be taking care of you one day. Please help our future!
