I Have the Bots but Need the Power!

Help me give my students batteries to power robots in our STEM lab and more robots to learn how to code!

My Project

I am a K-12 traveling STEM teacher that serves all the students in my district of 12,000 students. My classroom is unique, in that it is located onboard a mobile bus that has been renovated and converted into a STEM lab. I am a true Mrs. Frizzle with a Magic School Bus as a classroom on wheels!

Students enter the doors of the bus with eager faces as they climb the three steps to reveal the countertops filled with laptops and robots waiting for them to build and code!

The needs of my students change with each school I visit. Some need the exposure to hands on learning, while others need social interaction with peers and development of communication skills. Whatever their needs may be coding activities can help fill the gaps.

Last school year, I worked hard to acquire several grants to equip the mobile STEM lab with various materials. These materials included coding critters, code and go mouse bots. beebots, botley robots, ozobots, Lego Education Spike Essential kits, Lego Education Spike Prime Kits, Lego Education WeDo Kits, Makey Makey's, Snap circuits, Finch 2.0, Hummingbird, and much more! The students were excited to learn and implement the new materials into their existing curriculum modules. Needless to say with so many students using the mobile STEM lab last semester and during our summer programs the batteries we had onboard were quickly depleted.

The goal of this grant is to replenish the batteries needed in some of the smaller robots and add to the K-2 robot options.
