My Students
My students are funny, smart, and try so hard to learn and please their teacher. My class is diverse and there are many students whose first language is not English. Having hands-on tools available to them is crucial to the success of their learning. They get so excited when I tell them, "We will be learning something new today."
Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most important weapon which you can use to change the world." I hope that through the education my students receive, this is something they will take away at the end of the year.
My students especially love it when I bring out the hands-on learning tools available in our classroom. It is so fun to watch their minds grow and expand as they are manipulating objects that help to solidify the difficult concepts taught in first grade. In addition to teaching my students content from the core, I am trying to teach them that education is powerful, that it will get them anywhere they want to go, and that it will help them to change the world.
My Project
In our classroom we love to play games. I believe that when students are actively engaged in what they are learning, the information sticks with them. The Snap & Build Sight Word activity will allow students to practice learning how to spell their sight words during small group instruction. Students will use this game to practice reading and spelling sight words that have been taught in class.
Students need to know that their feelings matter.
I am requesting a class set of My feelings journals to use as part of our daily writing so that students can write about how they are feeling each day. The journals will also be used to have students write about how they feel after a difficult situation with another classmate, or after an event that made them happy. These journals will encourage students to write and to share and express their feelings. More importantly, they will know that their feelings truly matter and that they are important.
