My students need an iPad to research and write reports, find pictures, speeches and documentaries about our Civil Rights Heroes, like Martin Luther King Jr.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon. It is a weapon unique in history, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals."
A famous quote from our Civil Right Hero, Martin Luther King Jr. sums it all nonviolence and education of Civil Rights are weapons
My students are smart, driven, and very verbal.
They are 95% Hispanic and 5% African American. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. They are exposed to violence and socioeconomic limitations, like lack of food, that others take for granted.
In my classroom, students get to dream; the sky is the limit. They've planned future traveling, designed their dream homes, and have become celebrated community heroes. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming high is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They are enthusiastic learners because they are provided with the hands-on experiences and activities that at home are simply unattainable.
My Project
My students need an iPad to research and write reports, find pictures, speeches and documentaries about our Civil Rights Heroes like Martin Luther King Jr. The education of Civil Rights in our classrooms is part of the Socio-History curriculum. Our students are taught that our Civil Rights Heroes fought for justice, equality, and the rights that we all deserve as human beings. They didn't fight in vain, because of their heroism we now live in a society that views every person as an American with equal rights and equal opportunities. Americans can live the so called "American Dream" regardless of their ethnic or socio-economic background. This is the message I want to make across my students, to stride for the "American Dream", to have dreams and goals because anything is possible when our society is just and provide an equal opportunity. This is the reason why I have requested an iPad, so that they can research biographies, information, pictures, and videos of Civil Rights Heroes. With the technology and research in place my students can write essays and reports.
I need your help to help me fund the resource, an iPad which without a doubt will enhance my students research methods.
Students will have countless access to activities, ideas, videos, pictures, biographies, famous speeches, and other resources that can contribute to them learning about Civil Rights. Please help me foster a sense of American Pride, Equality, and Fairness in my students.
