My Project
"I have a dream that right down in Alabama little Black boys and Black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers" (Martin Luther King Junior I Have a Dream)
We cannot forget our history.
Martin Luther King Junior gave everything as a leader to live in a world where both black and white people were treated equally. He is. not the only one. Rosa Parks, and Ruby Bridges are two of our most iconic leaders in the civil rights movement. But do our students know their names? They should. History in schools needs to include our mistakes from the past and teach about those that stood up against society norms.
The books that I choose will highlight important leaders from the 1900's who fought for equality. Students have January 20th off school and they need to know why this day continues to be a day of reverence for the past. They need to know who Martin Luther King is, what he stood for and who supported him along the way.
