Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach music (including band) at a large, crowded urban K-5 school in NY with a population of 1100+ students. 100% of the students qualify for free lunch, many come from economically disadvantaged homes, and many are English Language Learners.
Here's the problem: we have a phenomenal young female drummer who auditioned for the band this year (with some of the most extraordinary musical talent I've seen in my 7+ years teaching here), but...we don't have a drumset.
We need a drumset to provide the opportunity for her to join the band and for all the band students to enhance their rhythmic and ensemble learning.
You will make it possible for this talented, young student (and future percussion-loving students) to experience the joy of playing in a group, and to learn the important lessons of cooperation and team work.
