This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My elementary music class is full of singing, dancing, and playing. In the past couple years, we have been working to establish a strong culture of music makers and creative thinkers. My students love finding new ways to explore and create using music.

This year I want to give my students as many music making opportunities as possible in an environment they want to come into every day.

These students are so special because they are participating in their communities through the music program while also working to develop their own sense of self.

My Project

In order to give all students the opportunity to participate in music class, our school has music programs offered after school 5 days a week. With students constantly in and out of the classroom for different programs, sometimes music doesn't always get copied, or they forget it at home. The music room needs a copy machine so that students can still fully participate even if they don't have their music.

Sometimes students only come to my room for one hour after a school a week and many of these young students are just starting to learn how to be responsible for materials like music.

When a student forgets their music, we talk about responsibility, but they still need a copy at the time. I can't leave the room while students are there, so they end up struggling to share. A printer will allow us to make copies on the fly for music, extra staff paper, or an extra worksheet. We also need colored copy paper for the many permission slips and reminders that get sent home. With so many other papers going home, the colored paper helps notices stand out so students and parents can be up to date with all the after school programs.
