My Students

This year I have been switched from teaching a small special ed class to a large group of high reading third graders! This year we have been incorporating research into our writers workshop (their favorite part of the day!) Please help us bring more of these amazing tools to our growing class.

Our school is in a very impoverished neighborhood in West Philadelphia.

Some of my students live in shelters, others move around very frequently, but one thing they share is the desire to learn. I have been blessed with a group of kids who are flourishing (in a frozen tundra) --no exaggeration. These kids have no gym, no art, no music, no recess, some no coats, no food at home, and they're all GREAT KIDS. One of the best times of my day is seeing my students engaged, happy, working together and learning. This occurs when I let them research during writers workshop. Currently, 30 students share one computer, and one iPad. My students (and I) understand how costly these iPads are. We are hoping that someone will be able to give us the gift of two more iPads to use. I would like to buy one, but with student loans, materials to buy (like copy paper) etc. I just can't make ends meet to afford one. I hope someone is able to help us. Thank you for considering us.

My Project

My students work collaboratively throughout the day. I enjoy watching my students discover their hidden skills and talents while helping each other. When my students have the opportunity to experience technology they feel so special. Not only do they feel special, but their work is so much more unique and authentic. They get to research weather in different regions, holidays around the world, how things are made, and so so much more! Right now each student receives about 10 minutes every other day on the iPad during literacy. If my students had another iPad it would greatly improve their ability to research their writing topics, how to spell words, grammar rules, word choice, etc. Thank you for thinking of us when you donate!

These iPads would enhance each student's education.

With no textbooks it is difficult to find enough high interest passages to print and copy for 30 awesome students each and every day. With more iPads, my students can read aloud, research, and collaborate in groups. With the iPad's technology our options to extend our learning are infinite! Thank you for taking the time to read this.
