My Students
I am learning how to more effectively teach themes that engage students in a way that is more interesting than traditional teaching methods. In an attempt to empower twenty-first century learners, constant reinforcement of information is so important. My students, being NYC students, need to know how the world around them works.
My students are inquisitive and eager to learn using something that is actually interesting, that will engage them and activate their civic duty.
They are in this three year Law Academy hoping to leave it with a love for law. Students learn best when they themselves can learn in an environment where they have information that best speaks to their interests. Learning about the law can be dense; learning through reading about important historical figures, they will connect with the content.
I want my students to be able to make sense of the world around them. We, as educators, need to find more ways to relate the content to something they know. Please don't allow my students to have this limitation in their education. Please help my students to be able to learn in a way that is more comfortable and suitable for their lives.
My Project
Especially with the passing of Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, it is important for my Law Academy students to know how they can play a part in their government. By looking at the Dissenting Opinions drafted by Justice Ginsburg, my students will see how the opinions or views of one (of nine) individuals can help shape the American Legal System for a generation.
I want my Law Academy to want to be as good at understanding the point-of-view of those they disagree with as Justice Ginsburg was at writing Dissenting Opinions.
