My students need 6 direct cause and effect activities that are accessible for the most physically/cognitively challenged students that will produce bubbles, lights, sounds and vibrations when activated.
I am a teacher of 12 severely, multiply challenged students ages 7- 9 years. Although their cognitive abilities and physical limitations vary from student to student, they all have one characteristic that remains the same. Most of the students are completely dependent on a teacher, assistant or parent to interact with their environment. It is difficult for these students to acquire the simple cause and effect skills that naturally occur in typically developing children through sensory exploration.
My staff and I work daily to provide experiences that will awaken our students senses and teach them control over their environment through cause and effect learning activities. These activities are easy to find for newborn babies but are not age appropriate for my students who are considered second and third graders. These specially adapted materials are also extremely expensive to buy with allotted teacher resources.
With this in mind, I have found teaching aids through the Abilitations catalog that will help my students develop cause and effect learning skills, improve attention, increase motivation and provide a sense of accomplishment through independent learning. All children love bubbles. With the adapted bubble blower, my most physically challenged students can operate a simple switch to activate the bubbles. The mini domes will provide immediate feedback upon activation to increase thinking skills and provide sensory stimulation. The activity center provides a variety of choices that can be positioned to allow the most physically limited students to explore.
Please help me to expand my students learning potential and increase their self-esteem through independence and choice making.
