My students need a document camera to enhance their visibility during lessons.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Gavin's classroom raised $356
This project is fully funded
"If children are not learning the way you teach, teach them the way they learn"! In our classroom that means hands-on, real life, and authentic learning, however this can't take place if the children can't see what is happening. A document camera could change all that!
Our school did not meet the state requirements for AYP (adequate yearly progress), which means in a time of economic strife, these kids do not even have a leg up with their educational backgrounds. Currently, state funding is being thrown at schools like ours, hoping that money can fix the problem. However, higher test scores will come from better instruction, higher levels of engagement, and meaningful learning! Your donation today could be a part of this progress. By implementing the use of a document camera in our classroom children could watch up close science experiments, teacher modeling of math manipulatives, and even tiny details in a story book illustration. Think back to when you were in elementary school and you desperately wanted to see the science volcano explode, and as you inched closer, and closer (probably because someone next to you was blocking your view), your teacher told you all to scoot back! Scoot back? Away from the learning? Away from the engagement? "Scoot back so everyone can see" she would say, but deep down your desire to learn was crushed a little bit.
The solution to part of this lies in a piece of technology called a document camera. A document camera is similar to taking a video camera and placing it right above your lesson/experiment and then having it projected up on a big white screen for everyone to see with great detail. It works by taking 30 pictures per second and sending these images through to our computer and then to the projector, and magically the once 3 inch chemical reaction of the salt melting the ice, turns into a 3 foot demonstration on a screen! Real life learning available for everyone to see, everyone to engage with, and for everyone to make meaningful connections with!
Here is where we need you. You may be thinking, well if the state is throwing funds your way go ahead and buy a document camera with it. Sadly, I do not teach in a grade level that administers a state test (SOL), therefore our classroom is not receiving as much attention. By giving funds to the grade levels who are testing, the state is taking an immediate action, however YOU can be part of being proactive and preventative. If we start teaching children the way they learn NOW, then when they get to these higher grades they will finally have that leg up on their education. I can continue to make and research awesome lesson plans, however if children can not see and engage with them at a personal level, it won't matter. "If children are not learning the way you teach, teach them they way they learn". I look forward to the day when I no longer have to tell children to scoot back, and they say "I can see!"
