My students need 3 microscopes to help with lessons and assessments in science. The microscopes will help meet their individual needs on state mandated test.
Because we live in the delta, students are not exposed to using the microscope. Have you ever tried to examine an animal or plant cell without a microscope? It is nearly impossible to do! The hands-on experience will give the students more of an understanding of the plant and animal cells.
The majority of my students are African American students.
We are a high poverty school. They love to do hands-on activities and the students will look forward to using the microscopes. The microscopes will make the plant and animal cells or any other type of activities dealing with the microscope fun for the students.
My Project
By using the microscopes, students will explore the micro world of plants, animals and microbes with microscope slides they safely prepare themselves. They will have an opportunity to observe water dropper microscopic life forms that come to life from a special dry pond mix. The students will also get an opportunity to learn about the mechanics of the instrument, practice focusing, and prepare samples for viewing.
The donations I have requested are important to my class because they will introduce the students to the world of microscopy and will help students better comprehend science curriculum.
Being able to combine superb photo-micrographs with detailed classroom materials will create a complete learning system that will follow them throughout their college years.
