"This school rocks!" exclaimed a recently transferred 3rd grade student. When I asked this student why he believed our school "rocks", he had plenty to say. This new student felt welcomed the first week of school by everyone ("Even the custodian talked to me!") Yes, I agree, our school is filled with respectful, kind, and friendly staff and students.
Our school community embraces each student and works hard to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment.
We provide free lunch and breakfast for a large percentage of our students. Every year we have several students who transfer in or out of our school. We are always ready to welcome a new learner to our school community!
Teachers at our school strive to promote lifelong readers. "The teacher let me choose a whole bunch of books to read! I never got to read what I wanted to in my last school." Students have choice and time to read and discuss books.
I was thrilled to hear this from a student! Our hope is that every student, parent, teacher, and community member feels the same way about our school. Our school rocks!
My Project
Due to ongoing budget constraints, we have not been able to fund a librarian position for the past few years. Our students, staff and parents are determined to work together to keep the most vital and essential place in our school running - our library!
Our readers need a comfy, vibrant place in our school where they are surrounded by lots and lots of wonderful, amazing books!
Having variety, choice and time to read will help with our mission of creating lifelong readers who view reading as magical and a necessity.
We are working hard to renovate our library to meet the needs and interests of our readers. We continue to add more books to the shelves, thanks to generous donations. However, when we look around...there is not a piece of kid-friendly furniture in the room. Your generous donation will help to fund the purchase of colorful, comfy beanbag seating that students can use while searching for books or getting lost in a book. Thank you!
