I Can Write, How About You?

Help me give my students the Conventions and Craft Curriculum to provide extra support to help them write on their level.

My Students

My classroom is filled with 18 eager second through fifth graders who struggle with understanding the conventions needed for writing. My school is a Title 1 school and we serve students from all walks of life. From homeless, single family homes and with more than 75% living at or below the poverty level, my students always show up determined to learn.

No matter the cards that my students are dealt, they show up in my classroom every day and give their all.

These students are the future doctors, teachers, politicians, engineers and they deserve the very best.

My Project

Writing is an integral part of elementary curriculum. The students that I serve currently perform 1-2 grade levels below where they need to be in writing. Conventions and Craft curriculum will allow me to have access to a years worth of different conventions. An example of a few conventions would be: sentence structure, editing, word choice and grammar. By having the entire years worth of instruction for the grade levels I serve, I will be able to pull the conventions that fit the needs of each student at any given time in the year.

Writing and reading go hand and hand, especially in the upper grades.

TDA or text dependent analysis is a tool that is used often in their classrooms and on state tests. What I appreciate about this curriculum is that it incorporates a non-fiction book or magazine article that the students can analyze in their writing for that day.
