Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach kindergarten at a Title I school where more than 50% of our students receive free or reduced-rate lunches and due to COVID-19 most of my students did not have the opportunity to attend preschool or daycare and this has been their first real school experience.

Our school is very culturally diverse and I would love to add some diverse books into our classroom to help all children feel represented.

Having diversity represented in our books and a mini-fridge will allow us to explore and taste diverse snacks while learning about other cultures. With a diverse library not only will we be able to learn about cultures from around the world but we will also be able to make, try, and taste different snacks/treats that can be held in the mini-fridge.

Not only would we like to add diversity into our classroom, but also organization! We would love to have a place to put all of our new books. Having a bookshelf will help us display and put away our new books.

Being a Title I school in an older building, materials and supplies do not always get updated or replenished. Our class would love a class set of individual whiteboards to help us when whole group learning together on the carpet and at our tables. This can help us with handwriting practice, math equations, spelling short vowel words and so much more.

Lastly, we would love to replenish some frequently used supplies and add some new fun prizes to our class treasure box. These prizes and supplies will help keep students motivated and excited through the rest of the year.

COVID has made life challenging, but I know seeing these new materials/supplies will bring a big smile to my students' faces.
