My Students

The Visual Teaching Alliance states that visual aids in the classroom improve learning by up to 400 percent. Many times I am faced with the statement "I can't see," and I often think of the missed opportunity to impact student learning due to the lack of visualization. Technology can aid in this.

My students attend a Title One school.

All 23 of them love to be engaged in their learning. Visualization is an important part of their day as they love to make an images in their mind that tie in with the concepts that they learn on a daily basis. They are presenters and digital natives. They love to interact with technology and furthermore love to demonstrate their expertise during their daily speaking and listening activities. They are 21st century learners.

My Project

The document camera will be most useful for sharing. The common core state standards focus on producing proficient speakers and listeners that utilize technology as a tool. Students partake in speaking and listening activities on a weekly basis in which they present something to the class. Utilizing the document camera during their presentations will enhance their ability to use technology and their comfort level in doing so while speaking. It will be useful to share independent projects as well as group projects in which there are visuals to share. During science experiments, students will not miss a second of the action. In math students will be able to show the use of their manipulatives for the class to see through use of the camera and possibly learn different ways to solve problems. The document camera will benefit students in every learning area covered throughout the day.

This donation will make a broad impact on my students as they will have visual information to go along with written and spoken information.

They will receive information in multiple formats which may in turn increase the success level by tapping into different learner modalities.
