My Project
Do you know the feeling of immersing yourself in a great book? My 1st graders love being read to in class! Our classroom library needs high-interest, engaging and easy chapter books for beginning readers so my students can learn to love reading independently!
I want my students to fall in love with reading by having a classroom library full of engaging and easy to read beginning chapter books!
We have 22 eager to read 1st Graders in our class! Some of my students are learning English as a second language, many receive special education services and a few are having their first school classroom experience post-pandemic. All of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and eat free breakfast in our classroom each morning.
My students are very excited to learn how to read independently, even though most of them struggle with this skill. Our classroom needs books with diverse characters, so my students can see themselves in these books! We also need books with high interest characters from Marvel, Disney, Thomas the Train and Pete the Cat to excite my students about reading! Students will also be able to check these books out from our classroom to take home and share the joy of reading with family.
Having diverse, engaging books with characters familiar to my students will help engage them in reading. Research shows the best way to become a proficient reader is to read every day! If my students have easy to read books that they want to read, they'll read more and become stronger readers! Your donation to my project will help create lifelong readers and learners.
