My students need 2 iPad minis with protective covers to help them become financially literate as they navigate through the classroom using interactive Apple apps.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Technology isn't an option that schools may or may not choose for their kids.Technological competency is a requirement for entry into the global economy and the faster we embrace it, the more we maintain and secure our economic leadership in the 21st century." ~ A.Duncan, Education Secretary
I completely agree with Duncan's statement.
Our students are living in digital world and they need the tools to be prepared to enter our competitive global economy. As an educator of 21st century students it is my obligation to equip them with the technological tools and skills necessary to enter this fast changing economic world.
When it comes to technology my 23 students are full of enthusiasm. It is as though I'm finally speaking their language. However, most of them do not have access to technology at home because they come from lower socio-economic households. At our school, 99 percent of our students are English language learners and 97 percent qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Many of my students participate in after school support and/or care due to various family circumstances. Despite these factors, my students come to school every day ready to learn and engage in new learning.
My Project
Having a pair of iPad minis will help support a financial literacy center in my classroom. Students will visit the center and access interactive math applications that will help them learn, review, and apply money skills. Students will be able to use the iPad minis to locate math QR codes throughout the classroom and engage in problem-based activities. They will also utilize Keynotes and Pages to create money problem-based stories and present them in class to their peers. In addition, students will also use Numbers application to display knowledge of measurement and data.
Financial literacy is a necessary life skill to be able to successfully function in our global economy.
I'm confident that your kind donations to this project will help my students apply the every-day money skills necessary to become college and career ready. The iPads will increase student learning, motivation, creativity, and confidence as they navigate and engage with interactive math learning games, activities, lessons, and Apple installed applications, such as Keynote, Numbers, and Pages.
